Ritual without Tools

Published by Mistic under Personal, Spirituality, Wicca on November 6, 2006

A few years back I had wanted to be a part of a real Wiccan circle. After more then 10 years of solo study and practice I felt ready to join more of a community. I was long past the “beginner level” and knew I had to go further. I’ve always had other magical pals whether it is through email contact alone, or face to face. The final result became myself…. along with 3 other women to form a small circle for full moon ritual meetings.

Once the 4 of us began our mutual quest, there were decisions and choice to make for a ritual style and the tools we might use. All 4 of us were what you’d consider to be eclectic yet we all leaned toward one particular Tradition, all of which different. This meant the use of tools, and the way we used them was also a touch different.

Put 4 women in a room together, Wiccan or not, and you will find several strong opinions. This being the case we quickly nipped the problem in the bud. We’d use nothing. No tools. No formal ritual beyond casting a circle. We’d be spontaneous. We’d be natural. We’d all remain true to our own path, because after all… do we know for certain that any of us are “right”? At first the lack tools and the lack of structure was strange. But we proceeded.

We have no “leader” no HP, we simply take turns if we need to. Sometimes our ritual has no words as well. Sometimes it is reflective, secret even. Other time we have had great pondering debates after. We’ve solved the world’s problems over wine, well, at least in our minds. The evenings we celebrate are always and have been a great escape for me. I’m not really a night time person, but it turned out that I can do it and do love it anyway.

We have progressed, grown, and changed over the course of 4 years now. We didn’t need tools to FEEL a connection to one another, or to our own spirit. Tools really only help aid you to get to the mental place you need to be. Tools do not provide the “magic”, we do.
