How to Spot a Good Psychic or Tarot Reader
Plainly stated.... how a seeker can beware!
Hearing predictions is a form of entertainment and may help you to release anxiety about your problems.

Genuine psychic readers, no matter the tools they use… are typically spiritual creatures on the planet that seek to guide others to the right path. A good reader is often a spiritually whole person without their own daily dramas or relationship issues. They should live on a higher plain, have a basic understanding of human relationships, and evolved possibly through their own failures to a higher place.

A good psychic reader may not be "spiritual" at all. To use a tool such as the tarot, one neither needs to follow the "new age" or subscribe to a particular religion. Tarot Readers, Rune Readers, etc can also have normal lives and backgrounds.

A genuine psychic reading doesn't ask you to rub crystals, burn incense, or spend money to break a hex or buy things. A good reading is guidance for your soul, not your wallet. A good reading is for your personal development and growth.

A good psychic or fortune teller doesn't do "cold readings", they do not fish you for information, and shouldn't ask you many questions. A good reader or psychic may ask for an occasional confirmation with a yes or no answer from you, but ultimately they should be doing most of the talking Some statements you get in a reading may be vague and easily applied to anyone else. If the predictions or statements are vague and almost "generic" in nature then it leaves you to interpret the message and allows the fortune teller to still call themselves accurate.

A genuine psychic is not 100% accurate, and if they were they'd be some type of God/dess. Many internet psychics claim an accuracy rate or statistic. But who is measuring the % of times they are correct? Themselves? The same person making the claim? Your free will is going to play a huge part in how your future plays out. A good psychic knows they cannot pressure you into decisions that you must make for yourself.

A good psychic reader will tell you about obstacles in your path, as well as the reason they are holding your back from growth. No one can remove those obstacles but you.

A good reader must be a good COMMUNICATOR too! They must understand how to use language and proper English in order to effectively convey their message to you. A reader with poor language skills may not give you a well rounded or even intelligent answer, is that what you want? A website, or ad with poor language skills (misspellings, run on sentences, lack of direction in statements etc) probably represents a bad communicator, or at least someone who may not convey their reading very clearly.

A good psychic doesn't speak to you in "cliche's". Over used fluffy new age terminology in an ad or webpage is a significant sign that they have a good reason to hide behind cliche's. Movies and TV shows are full of cliche's about psychics or tarot readers, so it's likely we have all seen many.

A good psychic reading never blames a problem or obstacle on another individual. An unstable situation in our lives is a learning tool to further our growth. When we miss opportunities to grow by blaming our problems on "people", we do not advance our souls

A good psychic can provide testimonials from former clients, word of mouth by others is a far better advertisement than a website, a blog, or an in a newspaper. A good reader usually has a long list of regular clients.

Psychics are sensitive people, sensitive to their surroundings and the emotions of others. Place no judgment on a psychic, play no "games" either because it will affect your readings quality. The best way to test a reader is to hear the messages they have to tell you, and to evaluate it on your own over a few days time with analytical thought.

A good psychic reader will tell you the truth with class, intelligence, and respect your dignity. A good reader will gently inform you of bad news or negative events also, no one ever has a perfect happy reading without some area that needs attention. But if you cannot handle hearing "truth" then you may want to reconsider having any sort of reading.

A good psychic does not come at a cheap discounted price because a good psychic already has a vast clientele and needs to discourage "curiosity seekers" due to their limited time. Quality does come with a price, however, it should also not be outrageously expensive either.

Now let's consider some definitions that a seeker may not fully understand. These definitions come from dictionary meanings or Wikipedia. All information below can be looked up yourself and I suggest that seekers always arm themselves with information.

A Spiritual Advisor is a person with qualifications/degrees and formal education in spiritual and religious counseling. Not necessarily a psychic, more often is not.

Spiritual Advice typically comes from a person who may lack formal education, may follow a specific religious path, and may offer their opinion to you based off their beliefs and experiences. This person may not use tools (tarot, runes) and they may not be psychic at all.

A Psychic is a person with the ability to see, hear, or feel (sometimes all) by only the use of senses other than the typical ones.

A Tarot Reader is a person who uses the story and symbolism of the Tarot to interpret a "reading" or "message" for someone. A Tarot Reader may or may not have psychic abilities and still be able to do a reading. A Tarot Reader is much like an "interpreter" of the symbolism in the cards to pass on a message or to answer a question. The cards themselves are not magical.

A person who practices astrology is called an Astrologer. Astrology has 2 very basic parts: the general horoscope information, and the exact mathematics and science. Because one studies or practices horoscopes, it may not make them an astrologer. An astrologer doesn't need psychic ability to read or create an astrological chart.

Divination is defined as the use of magical tools and means to seek information on events, people and situations in the past, present and future. Divination is a term to define obtaining knowledge by magical means rather than of psychic ones through ritual and the use of tools. Divination is basically the interpretation of signs, symbols, omens, colors, numbers, weather etc.

Fortune-telling is the practice of predicting the future, usually of an individual, through mystical or supernatural means and often for commercial gain. It often accompanies the religious practice known as divination.

Common methods used of fortune telling include astromancy, cartomancy (fortune telling with cards), tarot card reading, crystallomancy (reading of a crystal sphere), and cheiromancy (palmistry, reading of the palms). The latter three have traditional associations in the popular mind with the Roma and Sinti people (often called "gypsies"). Various forms of fortune-telling appear throughout the world. Typical topics that fortune-tellers make predictions on include future romantic, financial, and childbearing prospects.

In contemporary Western culture, it appears that women consult fortune-tellers more than men: some indication of this comes from the profusion of advertisements for commercial fortune-telling services in magazines aimed at women, while such advertisements appear virtually unknown in magazines aimed specifically at men. Telephone consultations with psychics (charged to the caller's telephone account at very high rates) grew in popularity through the 1990s.

If you are seeking more definitions then what my little website has provided then please go to the Glossary of Psychic Terms at Astrocenter. There are literally thousands of genuine psychics, tarot card readers, and astrologers on the internet that really can do wonderful readings. Unfortunately though, there probably aren't as many "good" ones out there as there are websites that promote it. Purchasing a reading ANYWHERE and from ANYONE should also include a certain level of professional business ethics and procedures. Anything you give your money to -- is a business and should behave as such.
