How to Dedicate a Tarot Deck

At this moment, you should have your own brand new Tarot Deck. You may choose any deck you feel attracted to, because even though the decks are very different, the archetypal symbolism of the Major Arcana is, in its deepest meanings, the same.

Make sure you cleanse it before starting to work with it. You can do so by lighting a candle and an incense stick (it would be better to use a cleansing aroma, like Rue or Eucalyptus) and than visualize a white/blue cleansing light going through your Deck, cleansing it from the Energies it gathered before he came to you. Take a deep breath and than blow on your deck, transferring your energies to it. You may wish to do this every time you use the Deck. This lesson will take you, at least, one week. You must do these exercises everyday to get your tarot well cleansed and full with your own energies and yours only.
When you start performing readings you can let other people touch your deck. Some readers feel necessary to have the "subject" shuffle the deck, so they can connect better. You will have time to develop the techniques that serve you better, but not now! At this starting point, you are the only one who can touch your deck. Because it is a "virgin", it will hang on to all the energies it finds. During this week, after you do the cleansing and charging exercises, you may ask your Spiritual Guide (if you are religious you can ask your God(s) or Goddess (es) to accept this gift.

You should ask Them to lead you well when you perform a reading and ask them to let you see only the Truth and that you can serve only higher purposes. Ask your God/dess/energy-form to show you the way while you read, to enlighten you and to let yourself be helpful to others with your readings. This is very important. You should seek for higher guidance every time you perform a Reading. This will make it server higher purposes and will make you feel more attuned with the deck and with the Divinity.

During this week, you will observe your tarot deck. I suggest that you get a notebook especially for this course. It can be any notebook; you do not need anything fancy or expensive. (I, personally, use a big lined notebook very simple and regular.) You should write about the cards that speak more to you and why do you feel more attracted to certain cards. Also, note the ones that give you "the chills" or make you feel uncomfortable, and meditate on that. The Tarot will help you discover many things about your Self. During this process, do not look at the handbook! The Decks usually come with handbooks, explaining the meaning of the cards. Do not look at it for now! During this week, you will only focus on your own feelings about each one of the cards. Do not be afraid to talk to your deck. Some people think this is crazy, but it really works. It allows us to exercise our feeling towards the cards. Do not forget that the tarot cards are deeply archetypal. Their symbols speak to our deepest selves and they can awaken very strong emotions. Let it talk to you. Let yourself awaken your deepest senses and connect with the Tarot.
